Adjusting Parental Content Restrictions in Google Family Link
If your child is trying to use Sendcoach and sees a parental permission request when installing apps from the Google Play Store—even if they’re free—it’s likely due to restrictions set through Google Family Link.
To make sure Sendcoach (or any other essential free app) can be installed without requiring parent approval, you can adjust the content restriction settings in the Family Link app. Here’s how:
Step-by-Step: Disable Parental Approval for Free Apps
Open the Family Link app (on the parent’s device):
If you’re the parent, launch the Family Link app. If you're using the child’s device, these settings might be viewable under their Google account, depending on how supervision is set up.
- You can get to the Family Link here: https://families.google/familylink/
Select your child’s profile:
From the main screen, tap on the child whose settings you want to change.
Go to "Content Restrictions":
Tap on Controls, then Content restrictions, and choose Google Play.
Adjust “Require approval for” settings:
Under Purchase and download approvals, find the option called “Require approval for”.
Change this to “Paid content only” (or another appropriate setting that doesn’t require approval for all app downloads).
Save and exit:
Any changes should save automatically, but double-check before closing the app.
Confirm on the child’s device:
Go to your child’s phone and try installing Sendcoach (or another free app) from the Google Play Store to verify that the permission prompt no longer appears.
Notes
- These settings only affect Google Play app installations. Other types of content (e.g., movies, books, in-app purchases) may still require approval depending on your restrictions.
- You can always re-enable stricter permissions later if needed.
